After investigating, during my doctorate, experiences of discrimination lived in everyday work life by black workers at a fast fashion retailer in Brazil and realizing that the mechanisms aimed at grasping inequalities in social and symbolic interactions reproduced stereotypes and preconceptions limiting the access of black people to spaces or positions in this company, I thought it would be interesting to look at another case – Magazine Luiza – that had been on my thoughts for a while and that came to be my post-doctoral research. Thus, I began to more closely study/analyze the role of this company in the development and dissemination of some diversity programs and/or affirmative actions for the inclusion of black people and its intention to combat racial inequalities. Furthermore, I present a discussion on ‘racialized work organization theory’ – in which organizations are understood as racial structures. Finally, I present some data from the research and some material from an interview with André, a black manager, whose account is not only very rich in terms of the liveliness and uniqueness of our meeting and interaction, but also shows a change in attitude and focus about the dissemination of policies in favor of diversity and affirmative action, aimed at including black people in various positions without hierarchical restriction within the company.
