In this issue of the Brazilian Journal of Sociology, the Futuros Passados section publishes ‘As condições sociais da formação científica do sociólogo’, a work by Marialice Foracchi presented at the II Brazilian Congress of Sociology, in Belo Horizonte, in March 1962. This important paper deals with the conditions of the scientific training of sociologists. Despite being situated in its time and circumstances, the analytical perspective adopted by the author – as well as the results of the research on university students from São Paulo and, subsequently, students of Social Sciences – gains a unique and lasting relevance. It helps us to construct interpretations about the present of Brazilian sociology, in which the debate around changes in the socioeconomic profile of university students gains relevance.
