This dossier is dedicated to analyzing the various ways images – whether photographs, videos or other visual and audiovisual productions – are used in digital media. It seeks to foster a dialogue between the fields of sociology of images and digital sociology, highlighting the importance of sociological analysis of symbolic conditions and the role of images, in their various forms, in social life. To better understand the cultural, political, and economic changes brought about by the widespread adoption of digital technologies in our society, it focuses on one of their most notable aspects: the creation of visual content, particularly audiovisual content, considering the centrality of new communicative dynamics on digital platforms and, more recently, the innovations introduced by generative artificial intelligence.
